This is a brief biography John wrote as liner notes for his recent CD “Fiddle History"

NOT JUST FIDDLIN’ >> THE REST OF MY LIFE >> TODAY

For the past 20 years, fiddling has taken a back seat to my personal and professional life. While I continued to play, my time, energy and focus on music fluctuated over the years. Shortly after my swan song fiddle summer of 1982, I started working for my former manager at IBM (where I had interned in college). Over the years I worked in high technology equipment sales and sales management for several companies, relocating in 1987 to San Francisco.

In 1991, I took advantage of a unique opportunity and moved for 6 months to a tiny village in Provence, escaping the fast-paced Silicon Valley business world. I worked part time in the spring pruning vines for a small chateau, tried (without much success) to learn French, and generally enjoyed the experience of living in a very different world than the one I’d known. While I enjoyed my time in France and wouldn’t hesitate doing it over again, I came to realize that I loved living in the USA.

When I returned to San Francisco from France, I shifted my day-to-day work focus and stepped into a company specializing in executive search and placement. Since 1992, I have been one of the lucky people who love what they do for a living and wake up every day excited to go to work. During these past years I honed my recruitment skills and in 1999 joined a small firm in San Francisco where I am now one of the owners and partners – 1 EXEC STREET.
